Dr Mark Porter sub-specializes in Sports Orthopaedic Surgery, of both the upper and lower limb. This largely comprises arthroscopic and ligament reconstructive procedures of the knee (ACL, other ligaments, cartilage / meniscal injuries), shoulder (stabilizations and cuff/ tendon repairs), and ankle (stabilization and arthroscopic work).
He completed his medical degree at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in 1990. Following this he has completed two specialist training programs in Australia, as a Sports Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon. He also has a Masters in Sports Medicine and a Doctorate in Science. He has sub-specialized in the management of sports injuries for more than 20 years.
His practice has a strong scientific, evidence-based, philosophy. This includes personal involvement in research and he has published and presented nationally and internationally in the area of sports orthopaedic surgery, ACL reconstruction in particular. He is a scientific reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
