The Evolution Healthcare Executive consists of over 100 years combining all facets of healthcare from clinical expertise, hospital management, site acquisition and redevelopment to entrepreneurial financial operations and institutional fund management.


Ben Thynne, Managing Director

Over the past 15 years Ben has gained significant expertise in acquiring, redeveloping and managing private hospitals with a focus of delivering excellence in healthcare. Prior to founding Evolution in 2011, Ben was the Founder and Managing Director of Healthe Care Australia. Under Ben’s management Healthe Care became Australia’s largest privately owned network of private hospitals. For several years Ben was a Director of the Australian Private Hospitals Association. Ben’s qualifications include a Bachelor of law and Graduate Diploma in Finance and Investment. He has been admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland.



Andrew Savage, Executive Chairman

Andrew enjoys over 23 years of institutional fund management, including senior positions within Macquarie Investment Management and CHAMP Private Equity.  Andrew was a co-founder of CHAMP Ventures, the growth capital arm of CHAMP. Andrew has been a director of numerous private companies, including Healthe Care Australia and the Bosch Institute, a major centre for biomedical research at the University of Sydney, and several companies which successfully floated on the Australian and Singapore stock exchanges. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce, is a chartered accountant and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.

Sue Channon, Chief Executive Officer

Sue Channon is an established healthcare industry leader with a well-earned reputation for her extensive experience in delivering and leading business growth. She has held senior management positions in various Australian Healthcare organisations for over 20 years. Before her recent appointment to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Evolution Healthcare, Sue held the position of Group CEO Virtus Health from 2010 to February 2020. This position saw her lead a team of 127 fertility specialists, over 1200 specialist fertility staff (nurses, scientists, administrative staff, counsellors and the support services of finance, IT and marketing) across 43 fertility clinics in five countries; an Australian network of general pathology, specialist fertility and genetic testing services and seven day hospitals.

Stephen Johnston, Chief Operating Officer

With over 20 years in operational management, Stephen has extensive knowledge and expertise in implementing innovative change across private hospitals in Australia. Prior to joining Acurity Health Group as Chief Operating Officer in September 2019, Stephen was General Manager of Waratah Private Hospital in NSW. Under Stephen’s direction he led Waratah Hospital into its future as the centre for surgical and rehabilitation excellence.
